It damages the inside of the eye, at the retina, and causes permanent vision loss.
Macular degeneration is mostly due to aging and sun damage to the eyes.
Historically, age-related macular degeneration was treated with injections to the eye to prevent further vision loss.
It can be unpleasant to the patients and costly.
Now, there is cell-penetrating peptide (CPP) that can deliver the drug to the back of the eyes. It can be formulated in an eye drop. It’s great news to the patients!
