Interested in Laser Eye Surgery?

Laser eye surgery is becoming one of the most popular forms of refractive eye correction; however it’s not an option for everyone. Depending on the health of your eyes, you might not be a suitable candidate for laser eye surgery.

However, Warden Optometry offers a comprehensive consultation appointment to help you find out if your eyes are suitable for surgery, and which surgery is best for you.

Laser Eye Surgery Procedures

LASIK eye surgery is the most commonly performed operation used to correct refractive errors. In LASIK eye surgery, your surgeon will make an incision in the lens of your eyes, folding back a “flap” to gain access to the cornea of your eye. Your surgeon will then use an excimer laser on your cornea to correct your vision problems. At the end of the surgery, the flap will be refitted on your eye.

This procedure is used to correct myopia, presbyopia, and astigmatism.

PRK eye surgery follows a similar procedure of LASIK eye surgery, but instead of creating a “flap” in your lens, the lens is completely removed to grant access to your cornea. Once your cornea is reshaped to correct your vision problems, your eye will heal the lens over a short period.

SMILE laser eye surgery is an all femtosecond laser performed procedure where a surgeon cuts a lenticule-shaped disc inside the cornea of your eye, which is then removed through a small slit in the lens of your eye. Removing the disc is what causes the refractive changes in your vision.

Post-Operative Care

Laser eye surgery is a major procedure that will require you to take a few days off so your eyes can heal properly. Depending on the type of surgery, your optometrist will likely have you book a series of follow-up appointments so they can monitor the healing process.

If you feel irritation or burning in your eyes after the operation, see your optometrist immediately. Generally, this is a common side-effect of the surgery as your eyes heal, but it is best to keep your doctor updated with the status of your eyes.
